The Sky-Cable and Star-Ball Dog
Leo was the new kid in town, missing his old bedroom and the way the morning light used to hit his favorite pillow. One Saturday, while exploring the backyard, he spotted something strange—a shimmering silver cable hanging from the sky like a piece of moonlight that had forgotten to go home.
Leo tugged gently. To his shock, the cable lifted him right off the ground, floating upward like a dandelion seed caught in a gentle breeze. Higher and higher he drifted until he landed on a cloud so soft it felt like a marshmallow dream.
There, waiting for him, was the most extraordinary dog Leo had ever seen. Her fur was made of tiny silver stars that twinkled when she wagged her tail, and her eyes held the wisdom of a thousand moons.
"Welcome, Leo," she said. "I've been hoping you'd find my sky-cable. My name is Luna."
"You can TALK?" Leo gasped.
"Up here, all things speak if you listen with your heart," Luna replied. Then she did something magical—she pulled a glowing baseball from her fur. It wasn't just any baseball. It sparkled like captured starlight.
"Want to play?" Luna asked. "This is a star-ball. Every time you catch it, you'll see a happy memory."
They played the most wonderful game of catch Leo had ever experienced. Each time the ball landed in his hands, he saw moments of joy—his mother's laugh, his father's cooking, the day he learned to ride his bike. Luna revealed that she had once been a lonely Earth dog who wished on a falling star and was granted the chance to help children find happiness.
"The star-ball shows us what we already have," Luna explained softly. "Sometimes we forget to notice the good things when we're busy missing what we left behind."
As the sun began to set, painting the sky in cotton-candy colors, Luna gently guided Leo back to the sky-cable.
"Will I ever see you again?" Leo asked, hugging his new friend tight.
"Whenever you feel lonely," Luna whispered, "just look up at the brightest star. That's me wagging my tail at you. And remember—you're never really alone when you carry happy memories in your heart."
Leo floated home, his own heart shining like starlight. The next day at school, he smiled at the boy sitting alone at lunch—the first step toward making his first human friend.
And every night before bed, Leo gazed out his window and waved at the brightest star, knowing his magical friend was wagging back, her star-ball ready to help another lonely child remember that joy can be found anywhere, even in the most unexpected places.
