The Secret Vitamin Pool

Lily loved swimming more than anything in the world. Every summer, she would rush to her grandmother's backyard pool, her red hair streaming behind her like a flame. The pool was ordinary-looking—a blue rectangle with a diving board—but Lily sensed there was something magical about it.

One hot afternoon, Lily's grandmother handed her a small orange pill before her swim. "Take this vitamin, sweetie," Grandma said with a twinkling smile. "It might help you see things differently."

Lily swallowed the vitamin and jumped into the cool water. Suddenly, the pool began to glow! Tiny fish made of light swam around her, and the water tasted like strawberry soda. She looked up at the pool's edge—her iPhone, which she'd left on a towel, was shimmering like a star.

Curious, Lily swam to the surface and grabbed her phone. The screen showed something amazing: reflections of another world beneath the water's surface! A whole kingdom of merfolk was dancing and playing.

"You finally took the magic vitamin!" a tiny mermaid with purple hair popped up from the water. "We've been waiting for you, Lily! The pool has been our doorway between worlds for centuries. Only special children with the vitamin can see us."

Lily's eyes widened with wonder. "Can I visit your kingdom?"

"Of course!" The mermaid took her hand. "But you must never tell anyone about our secret. Friendship between worlds must be protected."

That summer, Lily swam every day with her mermaid friends. She learned their games, their songs, and their stories about protecting the ocean. When September came and school started, Lily kept her promise. She never told anyone—not even her best friend—about the magical pool.

Every year, when Grandma handed her the orange vitamin, Lily would smile, knowing another summer of magic awaited. And she learned that some secrets are worth keeping, especially when they protect friendships between worlds.

The pool in Grandma's backyard looked ordinary to everyone else. But for Lily, it would always be the doorway to wonder.
