The Secret Spy Dog

Lily built a sand pyramid on the beach, her hands patting the golden grains into a perfect point. The sun warmed her back as seagulls cried overhead.

"That's beautiful," said a voice beside her. Lily looked up to see a boy with curly hair and glasses smiling at her. "I'm Oliver."

"I'm Lily," she said, returning his smile. "This is my pyramid."

"Want to see my secret?" Oliver asked, his eyes twinkling.

Lily nodded. Oliver pointed toward the water, where his golden retriever, Max, was splashing in the waves. But Max wasn't just playing. The dog was carrying something carefully in his mouth—a shiny, waterproof container.

"Max is a spy," Oliver whispered. "He spies on the ocean and brings back treasures from the mermaids."

Lily's eyes went wide. "Really?"

Max trotted up to them and dropped the container at their feet. Inside was a smooth blue stone that shimmered like the sea itself, and a note written in sparkling silver ink.

Oliver read the note aloud: "'Thank you, our secret spy friend. The ocean is safe because of you.'"

Lily gasped. "It's real!"

"Every morning, Max patrols the beach," Oliver explained. "He watches for pollution, stranded animals, and anyone who might hurt the sea. The mermaids trust him."

Lily looked at Max with new respect. The dog wagged his tail proudly.

"Can I help too?" Lily asked.

Oliver grinned. "The mermaids always need more friends. Max could use a partner."

And so, by the water's edge, beside Lily's sand pyramid, a friendship began. Together with Max, the secret spy dog, they protected the magical world hidden beneath the waves.
