The Secret Spy Club of Sunny Street

Lily and Leo loved summertime more than anything. Every morning, they'd race to the backyard treehouse, which wasn't really a treehouse at all—it was Secret Spy Headquarters, or SSH for short.

"Today's mission is critical," said Leo, holding a magnifying glass like a detective. "We must practice for the Big Neighborhood Olympics!"

Lily nodded seriously. Their spy club had three main training exercises. First came the **padel** court Grandpa had built last spring. Lily and Leo would hit the ball back and forth, counting every volley as a successful spy message delivered. Their record was forty-seven hits without missing!

Next came **swimming** practice in the small pool. Underwater spies needed to hold their breath forever, or at least until they counted to thirty. Lily was the best—she could touch the bottom and discover secret treasure (usually just shiny pebbles).

"Ready for baseball spy training?" Leo asked, pulling out his favorite bat. In their spy version, the baseball was actually a secret device that had to be hit to the exact right spot. The fence was enemy territory, and the garden was home base.

Everything was going perfectly until something strange happened. Lily noticed a piece of paper tucked inside a **palm** frond near the fence. It had a message written in mysterious code!

"A real spy mission!" Lily gasped.

They spent the afternoon decoding the message. It said: BE KIND TO NEW NEIGHBORS.

Just then, a girl their age peeked through the fence. "I'm Mia," she said softly. "I just moved here and I don't know anyone."

Lily and Leo looked at each other. Some spies they were—they hadn't even noticed the moving truck!

"Want to learn secret spy sports?" Leo asked immediately.

Mia's eyes lit up. That afternoon, she hit her first **padel** ball, learned to hold her breath underwater, and even scored a home run in spy baseball. By sunset, the Secret Spy Club had three members instead of two.

Lily realized something important: the best spies weren't the ones who could sneak around unnoticed. The best spies were the ones who noticed when someone needed a friend.

And that was the greatest secret mission of all.
