The Secret Spy Club

Lily brushed her messy brown hair away from her eyes and peered through her binoculars. She was on a Very Important Mission. At least, that's what she'd told her little brother, Toby.

"Are we still playing spy?" Toby asked, bouncing on his toes. "Can I be the spy now?"

"Shh!" Lily put a finger to her lips. "Real spies are silent. We're watching for…" She lowered her voice dramatically, "…the Zombie of the Garden!"

Toby's eyes went wide. The Zombie was actually their grandpa, who loved to shuffle around his vegetable garden wearing his floppy sun hat. But to Toby and Lily, he was a magical creature who made things grow.

"There!" Lily pointed. Grandpa was bent over the spinach plants, talking to them in a rumbly voice. The green leaves seemed to stretch toward him like they were listening.

"What's he doing?" Toby whispered.

"I think he's giving them his secret growing potion," Lily said wisely. In truth, Grandpa just loved his garden.

Suddenly, Mom called from the porch. "Who wants to learn padel?"

"What's padel?" Toby asked.

"Only the BEST game ever!" Lily grabbed his hand. "It's like tennis but more fun. Come on!"

They ran to the backyard where Dad was setting up a small net. He handed them colorful racquets. "The secret is in your wrist," he said, showing them how to hit the soft ball. It bounced off the walls with a satisfying *thwack*.

Grandpa shuffled over, his hair gleaming silver in the sun. "Mind if I join?"

"Yes!" Toby cheered. They played for hours, laughing whenever someone missed the ball. Even the Zombie of the Garden couldn't resist smiling.

That evening, they sat on the porch eating Grandpa's spinach, which tasted like sunshine and dirt and magic.

"You know," Lily said, "being a spy is great. But playing together is even better."

Toby nodded, his mouth full. "Best. Day. Ever."

Grandpa winked. "The best secrets," he said, "are the ones we share."
