The Secret Spy and the Pool Guardian

Emma adjusted her secret spy goggles—a pair of swimming goggles with sparkly stickers on them. Tonight, she was on her most important mission ever.

For weeks, strange rumors had buzzed through her neighborhood. Someone—or something—had been splashing in the backyard pool at midnight. The older kids whispered about a zombie lurking in the water, waiting to grab anyone who dared to swim after dark.

Emma knew zombies weren't real. But as a certified backyard spy (self-appointed), she had to investigate.

She tiptoed through the dewy grass, her flashlight cutting through the darkness. The pool water shimmered like liquid silver under the moonlight. *SPLASH!* Something moved beneath the surface.

Emma's heart raced. She crept closer, peer through her spy goggles, and gasped.

A green figure bobbed in the water! But it wasn't a scary zombie at all. It was a magical creature—a pool guardian named Zim—with sparkly blue skin and flowers braided into his seaweed hair. He looked a little like a zombie, but instead of groaning, he was humming a happy tune while collecting fallen leaves from the water.

"I keep the pool clean for the children," Zim explained with a gentle smile. "At night, when everyone sleeps, I make sure the water stays perfect for morning swims."

Emma couldn't believe it! All this time, she had thought the pool was just a pool. But it was magical, protected by a friend.

"The zombie rumors scare everyone away," Zim sighed sadly. "Nobody swims here anymore."

Emma knew exactly what to do. The next morning, she gathered all her friends and told them the truth. That night, the whole neighborhood watched in wonder as Zim performed his magical cleaning routine, leaving the water crystal clear and sparkling.

Sometimes the scariest stories hide the most wonderful secrets. Emma learned that night that being a good spy means finding the truth—and that friendship can be found in the most unexpected places.

Now, every full moon, Emma and her friends leave thank-you notes by the pool. And Zim, the friendliest zombie guardian in the world, always leaves behind perfect skipping stones in return.
