The Secret Pool Spy

Lily's backyard swimming pool looked ordinary—blue water, a diving board, and a swaying palm tree at the edge. But Lily knew better. She was the pool's secret keeper, its spy.

Every morning at dawn, when the water was still and the sky turned pink like cotton candy, Lily would tiptoe outside in her pajamas. She'd press her palm against the cool water surface and whisper the magic words: "Bubble and shimmer, show me what's hidden."

The pool would sparkle like glitter had been sprinkled across it. Then, through the ripples, Lily would see them—the Mer-Friends, tiny creatures with sparkly tails who lived in the secret kingdom beneath her pool.

This morning, something was wrong. The water felt too warm, and when Lily looked through her spy-pool, she saw why. A giant pile of shiny wrappers had fallen through the cracks between the pool tiles. The Mer-Friends were tangled in them!

"Lily!" called Marina, the mermaid with lavender hair. "The shiny snakes are trapping us!"

Lily didn't hesitate. She grabbed the long net they used for cleaning leaves and knelt by the pool's edge. But the wrappers were too deep. She'd have to go in.

She jumped into the cool water, swimming down to the bottom. Her spy mission had begun! Through her goggles, she saw the Mer-Friends struggling. She scooped up wrapper after wrapper, her arms working fast.

"Thank you, Lily-Spy!" bubbled Finn, a tiny merboy with orange fins. He pressed something into her palm before darting away—a shell that glowed with inner light.

When Lily surfaced, gasping for air, the pool sparkled brighter than ever. The palm tree seemed to wave at her, its fronds whispering, "Well done, spy-friend."

Later, sitting on her bed with the glowing shell safe beside her pillow, Lily smiled. Being a spy wasn't about secrets and shadows. It was about watching over friends, big and small, in magical places hidden in plain sight.
