The Secret Pool Spy
Leo loved swimming at the Sunny Hills Community Pool. Every Saturday, he practiced his best spy moves while doing laps, pretending he was on a secret mission. His older sister Maya had given him her old iphone to take pictures of his "adventures."
One cloudy afternoon, Leo noticed something strange in the deep end. A greenish figure bobbed near the ladder. His heart thumped. Was it a zombie? He'd seen pictures in storybooks, but never thought he'd meet one!
The young spy crept closer, iphone ready to capture evidence. The creature turned slowly, revealing pale skin and messy wet hair. Leo gasped.
"Are you... a zombie?" he whispered.
The girl blinked water from her eyes. "No, I'm Piper. I was just swimming underwater for a really long time."
Leo relaxed. "Oh! I'm Leo, pool detective."
Piper smiled shyly. "I just moved here. I don't know anyone."
"Want to be spy partners?" Leo asked, showing her his iphone collection of pool mystery photos. "We could investigate the case of the missing diving sticks."
Piper's eyes lit up. "Yes! And I can stay underwater longer than anyone to search!"
All afternoon, the new friends swam together, searching for lost toys and making up secret spy codes. Leo learned that sometimes things that seem scary are just people waiting to be friends.
As the sun set, Piper's mom called her home. "See you next Saturday, partner!" she waved.
Leo waved back, iphone full of new pictures and heart full of joy. The best mystery, he discovered, was finding a friend where he least expected one.
