The Secret Pool Pyramid
Lily loved summer days, especially when her best friend Emma came over to swim. But this day was extra special because of Buster, the scruffy golden dog they'd found wandering the neighborhood. Buster splashed happily in the above-ground pool, chasing water droplets like they were magical treats.
"Look!" Emma cried, pointing to the middle of the pool. "The pool noodles are stacking themselves!"
Lily rubbed her eyes. Sure enough, the colorful foam noodles were floating together, forming a perfect pyramid shape right in the center of the water. It shimmered with an iridescent glow, like soap bubbles caught in sunlight.
"It's beautiful," Lily whispered. Buster stopped splashing and sat motionless, his tail thumping against the pool deck.
As they watched, the pyramid rose higher until its tip nearly touched the clouds. A face appeared in the water's surface—not a scary zombie, but a friendly, green-haired water sprite who looked like she'd been swimming forever.
"Hello, friends!" the sprite chirped, her voice sounding like distant ocean waves. "I've been waiting for someone to believe in magic again."
Lily and Emma gasped. Buster barked happily, as if he'd known magic existed all along.
"My name is Coral," the sprite explained. "Every hundred years, I build a friendship pyramid to find kind hearts. You two passed the test!"
"What test?" Emma asked.
Coral smiled. "You rescued Buster instead of leaving him alone. Real friends help those in need—even dogs!"
The pyramid dissolved into a thousand sparkling drops that rained down like confetti. The pool water glowed golden for a moment, then returned to normal. Coral waved and disappeared beneath the surface.
Lily looked at Emma, then at Buster, who was now happily chewing on a pool noodle. Some adventures were too magical for words, but the best ones always happened with friends—both human and dog—by your side.
"Next time," Emma said, "let's leave extra snacks for Coral."
"And Buster," Lily added. Buster thumped his tail in agreement.
