The Secret Pool of Wishes
Lily loved the old woods behind her house. Every afternoon after school, she would go exploring, discovering new paths and secret hiding spots. But one day, she found something she had never seen before.
It was a small pool of water, tucked beneath a giant weeping willow. The water was so clear it looked like liquid glass, reflecting the sky perfectly. Lily knelt down and peered at her reflection. But when she smiled, the reflection didn't smile back — it winked!
Lily gasped and fell back, her heart beating fast. A voice bubbled up from the water, soft and sparkly like wind chimes.
"Don't be afraid," the pool whispered. "I'm the Pool of Wishes. I show children their deepest dreams."
Lily leaned forward again. In the water, she saw herself running through meadows filled with butterflies, painting rainbows across clouds, and singing with birds. She saw herself brave and strong, helping others and making the world brighter.
"These are my wishes?" Lily asked, amazed.
"Yes," said the pool. "But wishes only work when you make them come true yourself."
Suddenly, she heard crying nearby. Lily rushed through the trees and found a boy named Oliver sitting by a stream, tears on his cheeks. His favorite toy boat had drifted too far and was stuck near some rocks.
Lily remembered what the pool had shown her — being brave and helping others. She took a deep breath and stepped into the cool water. The current was stronger than she expected, but she kept going, running her hands through the water to guide the boat back toward shore.
"Thank you!" Oliver said, wiping his eyes. "I thought I'd never see it again."
"Would you like to see something magical?" Lily asked, smiling.
She led Oliver to the willow tree. The pool was still there, shimmering in the dappled sunlight. When Oliver looked into the water, he gasped. He saw himself sharing his toys, making friends, and laughing.
"The pool shows us who we can be," Lily explained.
Oliver thought for a moment. "Then we should work together to make these wishes real. Want to play?"
Lily nodded, and together they ran through the woods, their laughter mixing with the sound of water trickling over stones. The pool watched them go, its surface rippling with happiness. Sometimes, the best magic isn't in wishes at all — it's in the friendships we make and the kindness we share.
From that day on, Lily and Oliver visited the pool often, always remembering that the most wonderful dreams are the ones we help each other achieve.
