The Secret Pool of Wishes
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's backyard. It was full of surprises: twisted oak trees, flower beds that seemed to hum, and a small crystal pool that shimmered like liquid moonlight.
One rainy afternoon, Lily sat by the pool, watching her reflection. Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky, striking the water! But instead of scary, it was beautiful—purple and gold sparkles danced across the surface.
From the ripples emerged a small, friendly bear with star-shaped patches on his fur. "Hello!" he said. "I'm Barnaby. The lightning woke me from my nap inside the pool's magic."
Lily's eyes widened. "You live in the pool?"
"Not just the pool," Barnaby giggled. "This whole backyard is enchanted. Want to meet someone special?"
He led Lily behind the garden shed, where a tiny sphinx no bigger than a cat sat on a mushroom throne. The sphinx had butterfly wings instead of feathers.
"I've been waiting for you," the sphinx said wisely. "I am Sparkle. This pool grants wishes, but only to kind hearts."
Lily thought hard. "I wish for... for my sick friend Emma to feel better."
Sparkle smiled. "A selfless wish. Watch!" She fluttered her wings, and the pool began to glow. More lightning danced across the sky, but this time it formed the shape of a heart.
"Your wish has been sent to Emma's window on moonbeams," Barnaby said. "She'll wake up tomorrow feeling much better."
And she did! Emma's fever broke that night. When Lily returned to the pool, Barnaby and Sparkle were waiting.
"Thank you," Lily whispered. "Can I visit again?"
"Always," said the sphinx. "Remember: the best wishes are the ones we make for others."
Every thunderstorm after that, Lily would peek through her window, knowing somewhere, magic was dancing in the rain, making wishes come true.
