The Secret Pool of Dreams

zombiebullsphinxpool

Lily discovered the magical pool on a hot summer afternoon. It sparkled with rainbow colors, and when she dipped her toe in, the water felt like liquid sunshine.

"Who enters my pool?" a voice rumbled. From the water rose a golden sphinx with emerald eyes. "I guard this pool of dreams. Only those with brave hearts may swim here."

Lily's heart beat fast, but she nodded. "I'm brave."

The sphinx smiled. "Then swim, child. But know this: the pool shows you what you need to see, not what you expect."

Lily dove into the shimmering water. Suddenly she was in a magical meadow where flowers glowed like tiny stars. A great golden bull with silver horns trotted toward her. At first, Lily felt scared. The bull was enormous!

But then it spoke. "I'm Ferdinand. Are you frightened?"

"A little," Lily admitted.

Ferdinand laughed. "I'm a vegetarian bull. I only eat clover and dreams." He lowered his giant head. "Would you like to see something wonderful?"

Lily climbed onto his back, and they flew through clouds that tasted like cotton candy. Below them, she saw creatures moving slowly through a misty forest.

"What are those?" Lily asked.

"The sleepwalkers," Ferdinand said. "Some children call them zombies, but they're not scary at all. They're just lost dreams that forgot how to wake up. Every night, the sphinx's pool helps them find their way home."

Lily understood. The creatures weren't monsters—they were just dreams that needed help.

"Can we help them?" she asked.

Ferdinand swooped down. Lily touched the nearest dream-creature, and suddenly it transformed into a beautiful blue butterfly that fluttered toward the stars.

One by one, Lily helped the sleepwalkers become butterflies, fireflies, and songbirds. Each one carried a lost dream back to a sleeping child somewhere in the world.

When the last one flew away, the sphinx's voice echoed through the sky. "Thank you, Lily. You have a brave and kind heart."

Lily woke up beside the pool, now reflecting the real stars above. She felt different inside— braver, kinder, and full of magic.

That night, she fell asleep smiling, knowing somewhere a child was dreaming wonderful dreams because of her. And sometimes, when she swam in the magical pool, she could still see Ferdinand galloping through the clouds, carrying more dreams to children who needed them most.
