The Secret Pool Messenger
Lily loved her grandmother's backyard more than anywhere in the world. But she especially loved the old swimming pool hidden behind the tall oak trees. The pool had a secret—it could show reflections of things happening far away.
One sunny afternoon, Lily sat by the pool's edge, watching her reflection ripple in the water. Her long brown hair fluttered in the gentle breeze. Suddenly, she noticed something strange in the water's reflection. Instead of showing her face, the pool displayed a tiny mouse wearing a little red vest, holding what looked like a very important letter.
"Hello there!" Lily whispered, leaning closer.
The mouse in the reflection waved at her!
Lily gasped. The pool was magic! She quickly realized the mouse was trying to tell her something important. The little creature was moving excitedly, pointing at the letter and then toward the old garden shed.
"I think he needs my help," Lily said to herself.
She rushed to the shed and found a tiny mouse hole near the door. Inside lived Whiskers, the friendliest mouse in the garden. But today, Whiskers looked worried.
"The forest animals are having a big celebration tonight," Whiskers squeaked, "and I was supposed to deliver the invitation to the rabbits who live across the stream. But my poor leg is hurt, and I can't make the journey!"
Lily's heart went out to the little mouse. "I can help you be a spy," she suggested with a smile. "I'll carry the invitation and make sure the rabbits receive it!"
Whiskers brightened immediately. "Oh, would you really? That would be wonderful!"
Lily gently tied the tiny scroll to her favorite hair ribbon and set off on her adventure. The forest path was beautiful, filled with butterflies and singing birds. When she reached the rabbits' cozy burrow, they were so happy to receive their invitation.
"Thank you, thank you!" the rabbits cheered. "Now we can all celebrate together!"
That night, Lily sat by the magical pool again. This time, the water showed the forest celebration—dancing fireflies, happy rabbits, grateful mice, and all the other animals celebrating their friendship under the stars.
Lily smiled, touching her hair ribbon. Sometimes, she realized, the best adventures come from helping others, even the smallest friends. And magical pools make the best messengers of all.
