The Secret Pool Messenger

runningpoolspy

Lila loved running. She ran through meadows dotted with buttercups, ran along the babbling creek, ran until her cheeks turned pink and her hair streamed behind her like a comet's tail. But today she was running toward the old stone pool hidden deep in Whispering Woods.

Grandma had told her stories about this pool—that if you looked carefully at just the right moment, you could see messages from the future. Lila didn't believe in magic... until she heard rustling in the bushes behind her.

"Someone's spying on me!" she whispered, ducking behind an oak tree.

Through the leaves, she spotted not a spy, but a small blue creature with oversized glasses and a notebook. He was scribbling furiously, twitching his nose whenever a bird sang.

Lila stepped out. "Are you... a spy?"

The creature jumped. "I'm Pippin! I collect secrets for the Great Tree! She needs to know what makes children happy."

Lila's eyes widened. "The Great Tree? She's real?"

Pippin nodded toward the stone pool. "She speaks through water reflections. But I can't see them properly. My eyes aren't right for water-magic."

"Maybe I can help," Lila offered. Together, they knelt by the pool. The water was still—so still it looked like glass.

"What now?" Lila asked.

"Think of your happiest wish," Pippin said softly.

Lila closed her eyes and thought about running through fields with friends, everyone laughing together. When she opened her eyes, the water shimmered. Ripples formed pictures—children dancing, flowers blooming, a message glowing: *HAPPINESS SHARED GROWS.*

Pippin cheered, scribbling in his notebook. "The Great Tree will know exactly what to plant this spring!"

Lila smiled, understanding now. The pool wasn't just showing magic—it was teaching wisdom.

"Will you come back tomorrow?" Pippin asked. "There are so many secrets to collect."

Lila grinned, already planning her route. "I'll be running here every morning. Some secrets are too wonderful to discover alone."

And so every day, Lila ran through Whispering Woods, not because she was escaping anything, but because she was running toward magic—and toward a new friend who helped her see that some secrets are meant to be shared.
