The Secret Pool Magic
Lily loved the old swimming pool behind her grandmother's house. It wasn't like other pools – the water shimmered with colors that changed from blue to purple to green, especially when the sun began to set.
"Eat your spinach, dear," Grandma said with a wink. "It gives you magic sight."
Lily made a face but ate the leafy green vegetables. That night, when she went swimming in the moonlit pool, everything changed! The water sparkled with tiny glowing stars, and she could see beautiful fish that looked like they were made of rainbows.
Suddenly, something green and bubbly rose from the deep end. Lily's heart raced as a figure slowly emerged – arms outstretched, moving stiff and slow like a zombie from her storybooks. The creature had seaweed hair and glowing green eyes.
"Don't be scared," it spoke in a voice like gentle ocean waves. "I'm the Guardian of the Magic Pool. I've been waiting for someone who could truly see me."
Lily relaxed. The zombie wasn't scary at all – he was friendly! His name was Zale, and he explained that he had been守护 (guarding) the pool's magic for hundreds of years.
"Only children who eat their special spinach can see the real magic," Zale explained with a smile that reached his sparkling eyes. "Would you like to see my home?"
Lily nodded excitedly. Taking Zale's webbed hand, she dove beneath the surface. Down they swam, past glowing coral castles and schools of fish that sang like bells. They played tag with mermaids and had tea parties with friendly crabs on the ocean floor.
When it was time to leave, Zale gave Lily a special shell. "Whenever you miss our adventures, hold this to your ear. And remember – the magic was inside you all along. The spinach just helped you believe."
That night, Lily fell asleep dreaming of her new friend, the magical pool, and the wonderful secret that sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the most beautiful friends of all.
