The Secret Pool in the Woods

Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house. Every afternoon after school, she would venture a little deeper, discovering new wonders each day. One Tuesday, she found something magical—a crystal-clear pool hidden among ancient oak trees, its surface sparkling like diamonds in the dappled sunlight.

As Lily approached the water's edge, she noticed something strange. A small dragon, no bigger than a kitten, was peeking at her from behind a mossy rock. It had shimmering green scales and eyes that twinkled like stars.

"I'm Spark," the dragon whispered, puffing a tiny cloud of rainbow-colored smoke. "I was trying to spy on you without being seen. Dragons are supposed to be mysterious, you know."

Lily giggled. "Well, you're not very good at spying! But I'm glad you showed yourself. My name is Lily."

"Would you like to see something amazing?" Spark asked, his eyes dancing with excitement. "This pool is special. When you look into it, you can see memories of happy times."

Lily knelt beside the water and gasped. The pool showed her birthday parties, family picnics, and even the day she got her puppy, Max. Each memory shimmered like liquid sunshine.

"I come here when I feel lonely," Spark admitted. "I don't have many friends. Most creatures are afraid of dragons."

"That's silly," Lily said firmly. "You're the best friend I've ever made! From now on, you don't need to spy on anyone. I'll visit you every day, and we can share this magic pool together."

Spark's scales glowed brighter than ever. He did a happy little spin, and rainbow bubbles floated from his nose. "Really? You promise?"

"I promise," Lily said, crossing her heart. "Friends always keep their promises."

And so, in the secret pool hidden among ancient trees, a girl and her dragon friend discovered that the best magic of all isn't found in memories or wishes—it's found in true friendship, where everyone belongs and nobody needs to hide.
