The Secret Pool in the Palm
Lily loved to explore behind her house. One hot afternoon, she discovered something magical — a tiny pool hidden beneath the ancient palm tree that everyone said was too ordinary to notice.
The water sparkled like diamonds, even though no sunlight reached it. Lily knelt down and cupped some water in her palm. That's when she noticed something extraordinary. The water in her hand didn't look like a pool at all — it looked like a window!
Through the magical pool in her palm, she spied another world. Tiny creatures danced around crystal flowers. They were smaller than ladybugs and glowed like fireflies.
"Hello?" Lily whispered.
The creatures froze. Then one brave little being stepped forward. Though they spoke different languages, Lily understood — this being was a curious child too, just from another world.
Every day that summer, Lily returned to the pool. She brought small gifts: shiny pebbles, colorful leaves, even stories she wrote on tiny paper scraps. In return, the magical world showed her wonders — flowers that sang, stones that told jokes, rivers that flowed uphill.
One day, her schoolmate Max followed her. "I saw you spying on something back here," he said.
Lily's heart sank. Would he make fun of her? Would he tell everyone and ruin her secret?
But Max didn't laugh. He knelt beside her. "Show me."
When Max looked into the pool in Lily's palm, his eyes widened. The magical creatures welcomed both of them, and Lily realized something wonderful — her secret pool had just become twice as magical.
"We're going to be best friends," Max said.
"Yes," Lily smiled, "and not just us."
The magical pool had taught her the best secret of all — true magic isn't just about wonder. It's about sharing wonder with someone else. That summer, under the ordinary palm tree, two children discovered that the greatest adventures are the ones you share with a friend.
