The Secret Pool Above the Clouds
Lila loved running through the meadow behind her house. Every morning, she'd race the wind, her bare feet pattering against the soft grass like gentle raindrops. But today was different. Today, she found something magical.
At the edge of the forest, where the meadow met the trees, an old wooden tower stood tall. Thick ropes made a kind of cable that stretched upward into the misty clouds. Lila had never noticed it before.
"Hello?" she called. Her voice echoed back.
A small door opened at the top of the tower. A boy with sparkly blue eyes peeked out. "Come up! The pool is waiting!"
Lila grabbed the cable and pulled herself up, hand over hand, her arms strong from all her running. When she reached the top, she gasped.
Above the clouds sat the most beautiful swimming pool she had ever seen. But it wasn't filled with water — it was filled with liquid starlight, shimmering and glowing.
"I'm Finn," said the boy, smiling. "This is the Star Pool. It grants wishes to brave hearts who share them with friends."
Lila's eyes widened. "Really?"
Finn nodded. "But you must make your wish while running across the pool's surface. If you believe, you won't sink. If you doubt, you'll fall through."
Lila thought hard. What did she want most? Then she knew.
"I wish," Lila said, "that every child could have a best friend to share adventures with."
She took a deep breath and started running. Her feet danced across the starlight, leaving trails of rainbow colors behind her. With every step, she believed harder.
Finn ran beside her, laughing. "Faster! Believe!"
The Star Pool began to glow brighter. Tiny lights floated up from the water and drifted down toward Earth — hundreds of them, carrying friendship magic to children everywhere.
When Lila reached the other side, Finn high-fived her. "You did it! That was the bravest wish I've ever heard."
Lila looked down at the world below. Somewhere far away, she felt sure, a lonely child was suddenly meeting their new best friend.
"Can I come back?" Lila asked.
"Every morning," Finn promised. "Bring your running shoes. There's always room for more friends in the Star Pool."
And so Lila found something better than racing the wind — she found a friend to run beside her, and a magical pool where wishes really do come true, as long as you're brave enough to share them.
