The Secret of the Zombie Goldfish
Lily pressed her eye to the telescope made from an empty paper towel roll. She was the best spy in the neighborhood — at least that's what she told everyone. Every afternoon, she'd creep through her backyard with her magnifying glass, searching for mysteries to solve.
One Tuesday, something extraordinary happened. Lily was spying on Mrs. Higgins' garden pond when she noticed the strangest thing. A little goldfish was floating near the surface, barely moving. Its scales looked dull, and it swam in slow, wobbly circles.
"That's the most zombie goldfish I've ever seen!" Lily whispered.
She knew what she had to do. Lily scooped up the fish in her favorite bucket and rushed home. Her grandpa had an old swimming pool in the backyard — perfect for a rescue mission!
"Don't worry, little friend," Lily told the fish. "We're going on an adventure."
The moment the goldfish touched the sparkling blue water, something magical happened. Its scales turned from dull gray to brilliant orange-gold. It darted around like an underwater rainbow, leaving tiny bubbles that sparkled like fairy dust.
But the goldfish wasn't just swimming — it was dancing! It swam in patterns that looked like letters. L-I-L-Y.
"You can spell my name!" Lily gasped.
The goldfish splashed joyfully. Lily jumped in too, and together they played until sunset. The fish would swim circles around her, and Lily would giggle as the tiny bubbles tickled her toes.
That night, Lily made a promise. She would visit her magical friend every day after school. Some heroes wear capes, she realized. And some heroes have fins.
The best spy in the neighborhood had found the greatest treasure of all — a friendship that sparkled more than gold.
