The Secret of the Starry Padel

Lila was the best spy in the village. Not a real spy, of course—she was only nine—but she could spot a rainbow before anyone else noticed the rain, and she always knew when Mrs. Higgins was baking cinnamon rolls just by sniffing the air.

One evening, while spying on the fireflies behind the old palm tree at the edge of her garden, Lila noticed something strange. A glowing padel (a kind of racket, like her brother used for tennis) was floating in the air, right next to the palm's rough trunk. It shimmered like stardust.

"That's not ordinary," Lila whispered.

When she reached for it, the padel felt warm, almost like it was alive. Suddenly, a constellation pattern appeared on its surface—the Great Bull of the night sky! Her grandmother had told her stories about the Star Bull, a magical creature who guarded dreams and carried wishes across the night.

The padel pulled gently upward. Lila gripped it tight, and her feet lifted off the ground!

"Whoa!" she gasped.

She soared above the palm, higher and higher, until she saw something amazing—an orange glow between the stars. It wasn't a planet or a moon. It was an orange as big as a house, hanging in space like a sun!

Inside the giant orange, tiny lights twinkled—dreams waiting to be delivered to children. The Star Bull constellation appeared and nudged the orange with his nose, sending dreams floating down to earth like glowing dandelion seeds.

Lila watched in wonder. The padel had shown her this secret because she had been curious enough to look closely at the world. Not everyone noticed magic when it happened right in front of them.

The next morning, Lila found the padel gone, but an orange sat at the base of the palm tree—a small, ordinary orange, with a tiny star-shaped marking on its skin. She peeled it and shared it with her brother, who said it was the sweetest orange he'd ever tasted.

Lila smiled. Some secrets are worth keeping, but the best ones—like wonder and kindness—are worth sharing.
