The Secret of the Starlight Pool

Lily discovered the hidden door behind her grandmother's attic bookshelf on a rainy Saturday morning. The tiny wooden door glowed with soft blue light, and when she pushed it open, she gasped. A spiral staircase made of crystal descended into darkness, and at the bottom, she found the most magical place she had ever seen.

An underground grotto sparkled with phosphorescent mushrooms that cast a gentle glow over everything. In the center sat a pool of the clearest water Lily had ever seen—it shimmered like liquid diamonds, reflecting the mushroom light in dancing patterns. The water was so still it looked like a mirror, until a tiny splash broke its surface.

"Hello!" called a squeaky voice. A small creature popped up from the water—a round, fuzzy blue ball with big eyes and a tiny crown made of sea shells. "I'm Puddle! Would you like to play?"

Lily knelt beside the pool. "I'm Lily! This place is amazing!"

Puddle explained that the magical pool could grant one wish each year to someone pure of heart, but only if they solved a riddle. "Listen closely: I make you strong and help you grow, I'm found in oranges and sunshine's glow. Without me, you'll feel tired and weak. What am I, that you must seek?"

Lily thought hard, remembering what her mother had taught her about staying healthy. Her eyes lit up. "A vitamin!"

Puddle clapped his tiny hands. "Correct! Now make your wish!"

Lily looked at the magical water and thought of all the things she could wish for—toys, adventures, treasures. But then she remembered her little brother Toby, who had been sick with a bad cough all week. "I wish for Toby to feel better and be strong again."

The pool's water began to swirl with rainbow colors. A warm glow filled the grotto, and Puddle smiled. "Your wish is granted. You chose kindness over greed—that's the strongest magic of all."

When Lily returned home, she found Toby sitting up in bed, his cheeks rosy and his eyes bright. "Lily!" he called. "I feel all better! Can we play?"

That night, Lily fell asleep with a smile, knowing that the real magic wasn't in wishes at all—it was in the love that made her choose someone else's happiness over her own. And sometimes, she discovered, that kind of magic was the most powerful of all.
