The Secret of the Sparkling Pool
Ruby loved summer days more than anything. Every morning, her mom gave her a special orange pill. 'This is your sunshine vitamin,' Mom would say. 'It helps you grow strong and brave.' Ruby swallowed it with a gulp of water, wondering if it really worked.
That afternoon, Ruby stood at the edge of her backyard pool, her toes wiggling on the warm concrete. The water looked extra sparkly today, like diamonds were dancing beneath the surface. She slipped into the cool blue water and began swimming, her arms slicing through the ripples like little fish fins.
Suddenly, something magical happened. As Ruby glided underwater, she noticed the pool floor had changed. Instead of plain blue tiles, there was a glowing path of pearls leading downward. Curious, she followed it deeper and deeper.
At the very bottom sat a tiny turtle with a shell that shimmered like rainbows. 'Hello!' the turtle said. 'I'm Tilly. I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me.'
Ruby's eyes went wide. 'You can talk?'
'Only to special children,' Tilly said. 'I need your help. The Pearl Princess is sick because she forgot to take her ocean vitamins. Now she's too weak to light up our underwater kingdom.'
Ruby's heart thumped with excitement. 'I can help! My mom says vitamins make you strong. Where does she live?'
Tilly led Ruby through a secret tunnel that opened into a magnificent underwater palace. There, sitting on a coral throne, was the Pearl Princess. Her shell was dull and gray, and she looked very tired.
Ruby reached into her pocket and found the little orange pill her mom had given her that morning—she hadn't swallowed it yet. 'My sunshine vitamin!' she said. 'Maybe this will help!'
The Princess took the tiny pill, and suddenly, her shell began to glow. Colors of pink, blue, and purple swirled around her like magic paint. 'Thank you, Ruby,' she said. 'You saved us all!'
As a reward, the Princess gave Ruby a special pearl necklace. 'Whenever you wear this while swimming,' she promised, 'you'll be able to visit us again.'
Ruby swam back to her pool, clutching her magical gift. As she climbed out, she noticed the water looked ordinary again. But Ruby knew better. The next time she went swimming, she would be ready for another adventure.
