The Secret of the Singing Garden
Lily hated green things. Especially spinach. Every night at dinner, she'd push the leafy greens to the edge of her plate.
"Eat your vegetables, dear," Grandma said gently. "They're full of magic."
Lily rolled her eyes. "Spinach isn't magic. It's just gross."
That night, Lily couldn't sleep. A strange glowing light drifted through her window. Curious, she followed it downstairs to Grandma's garden. The moonlight made everything sparkle like fairy dust.
Suddenly, the spinach patch began to hum. A tiny green fairy popped out from between the leaves!
"Help us!" she cried. "Queen Papaya is sick! She needs her magic medicine, but the Mean Munchers stole it!"
"Queen Papaya?" Lily asked. "Like the fruit?"
"Exactly!" The fairy fluttered her wings. "She rules the Garden Kingdom. Without her special vitamin potion, all the plants will wither!"
Lily's heart raced. A real queen needed her help! "I'll find it!"
The fairy handed her a map made of woven grass. "The Mean Munchers hid the bottle in their cave beyond the pumpkin patch. But be careful—they love to gobble up little girls!"
Lily crept through the garden, past sleeping sunflowers and snoring cabbage. At the cave entrance, she heard crunching sounds. Three fuzzy Mean Munchers were guarding a glowing bottle.
Lily remembered something. "Hey!" she called. "I have something tastier than little girls!" She held up the chocolate bar from her pocket.
The Munchers perked up. Lily threw the chocolate far into the bushes. They scrambled after it, leaving the cave unguarded. She grabbed the glowing bottle and ran!
Back at the castle, Queen Papaya—a beautiful fruit with a crown of orange skin—drank the potion. Color returned to her cheeks instantly.
"Thank you, brave child," the Queen said. "You saved our kingdom!"
"Why was that potion so important?" Lily asked.
"That was our special vitamin mixture," the Queen explained. "It gives every plant its power to grow healthy and strong. Just like how you need vitamins to grow!"
Lily thought about the spinach on her dinner plate. Maybe it wasn't so gross after all.
The next morning, Lily ate all her spinach without complaint.
"What changed your mind?" Grandma asked, surprised.
Lily just smiled. "Maybe I learned that green things can be full of magic after all."
From that day on, Lily became the Guardian of the Garden, visiting her fairy friends every night—and she never pushed her vegetables to the edge of her plate again.
