The Secret of the Orange Pyramid
Mango was no ordinary cat. With fur the color of a ripe tangerine, she spent her days napping in the sun while her best friend Baxter, a spotted dog with ears too big for his head, chased imaginary butterflies around the yard.
One afternoon, something strange happened behind the old palm tree that swayed in the warm breeze. Mango stretched and padded toward it, her whiskers twitching with curiosity. There, half-buried in the sand, glowed something magnificent.
"Baxter! Come quickly!" Mango meowed. "I've found a pyramid!"
Baxter bounded over, his tail wagging so hard his whole body wiggled. "But Mango, pyramids are in Egypt!"
"This one's right here," she said, tapping it with her paw. "And it's orange!"
The tiny orange pyramid shimmered in the sunlight, mysterious and beautiful. When Mango touched it again, it made a sound like wind chimes.
"It's magical," whispered Baxter. "I can feel it in my paws."
Suddenly, the pyramid spoke in a voice like rustling leaves: "I grant one wish each sunrise. But choose wisely, little ones."
Mango and Baxter looked at each other. Mango wanted all the tuna in the world. Baxter wanted a never-ending supply of bones. But then they looked at the pyramid again.
"If we wish for things just for ourselves," Mango said slowly, "the magic goes away. It's not special anymore."
"Then what should we wish?" asked Baxter.
Mango thought of all the animals in their neighborhood who didn't have warm beds or full bellies. Baxter thought of how lonely some of them must feel.
"We wish," they said together, "that every animal could have a friend like we have each other!"
The orange pyramid blazed brighter than the sun, sending golden rays shooting toward the sky. The palm tree danced with joy, its fronds clapping in the wind.
"Wise choice," the pyramid hummed. "Friendship is the greatest magic of all."
From that day on, every animal who passed beneath the palm tree found a new friend. And every morning at sunrise, the orange pyramid glowed just a little bit, reminding Mango and Baxter that the best wishes are the ones we share.
