The Secret of the Midnight Pool

Lily was the best spy in the neighborhood, or at least she pretended to be. Every night, she would peek through her curtains, watching for adventures. But the biggest adventure came on the night of the full moon, when she spotted something magical in her neighbor's backyard.

Mrs. Higgins had the most beautiful swimming pool, but nobody ever saw her use it. Until tonight.

Lily watched, wide-eyed, as Mrs. Higgins walked to the edge of the pool. The old woman pressed her palm against the surface of the water, and the entire pool began to glow with silver light! The water didn't splash—it rippled like liquid stars.

Then something impossible happened. Mrs. Higgins stepped right onto the water and started swimming through the air above the pool, as if gravity had forgotten all about her.

Lily couldn't help herself. She tiptoed outside, her heart beating fast. "Mrs. Higgins?" she called softly.

The old woman turned and smiled. "Ah, Lily! I wondered when my little spy would finally come to say hello."

Lily's face turned pink. "You saw me?"

"You have wonder in your eyes, my dear. That's hard to hide." Mrs. Higgins beckoned her closer. "Would you like to learn the secret?"

She held out her hand, and Lily stepped forward. Mrs. Higgins guided Lily's palm to press against the glowing water. suddenly, the pool wasn't a pool anymore—it was a window into another world, filled with swimming moonfish and dancing constellations.

"Every pool has magic if you know how to look," Mrs. Higgins whispered. "The water remembers all the wishes ever made in it. Tonight, the moon is granting wishes to those who believe."

Lily closed her eyes and made a wish—not for toys or adventures, but for her grandmother to feel better, because she had been sick for a long time.

The water sparkled brighter than ever.

The next morning, Lily's grandmother sat up in bed, feeling stronger than she had in months. And sometimes, when Lily looks at her reflection in puddles or pools, she sees a hint of silver magic, reminding her that the most wonderful discoveries come when you're brave enough to look closer at the world.
