The Secret of the Midnight Pool

Leo loved his backyard pool more than anything in the world. Every summer evening, he would swim until his fingers wrinkled like raisins. But one night, when the moon hung full and silver, something magical happened.

As Leo floated on his back, he noticed something strange. At the deep end, the water began to glow with golden light. Curious, he dove underwater and gasped – there, at the bottom of the pool, stood a magnificent pyramid made of shimmering crystals!

The pyramid had tiny hieroglyphics that sparkled like stars. As Leo reached out to touch it, the pyramid's top opened like a treasure chest, and bubbles floated up, forming the shape of a small, green creature.

"I'm Zaza," the bubble-creature said. "And I'm not a zombie, even though I look a little scary."

Leo laughed delightedly. Zaza did look a bit funny – with wobbly arms and a big friendly smile that made his face light up like a lantern.

"I've been trapped in this crystal pyramid for a thousand years," Zaza explained sadly. "People think I'm a zombie because I'm green and come out at night. But I'm really just a lonely friend who wants to play."

Leo's heart felt warm. He knew exactly what it was like to be misunderstood. "Well, Zaza, you're the scariest-looking friend I've ever made, and also the nicest!"

They spent the rest of that magical night playing tag in the pool, having splash contests, and sharing stories. Zaza showed Leo how to make bubble shapes, and Leo taught Zaza how to dive.

"The most important thing about friends," Leo said as the sun began to peek over the horizon, "is seeing with your heart, not just your eyes."

Zaza nodded. "And the best treasure isn't gold or jewels – it's finding someone who understands you."

As dawn broke, Zaza slipped back into his crystal pyramid, promising to return every full moon. Leo climbed out of the pool, tired but happy, knowing he had discovered something more magical than any treasure – a friend who taught him that true friendship sees past appearances and finds the wonder underneath.
