The Secret of the Magic Padel
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house. It was full of mysterious treasures, but nothing fascinated her more than the old padel racket hanging on the wall. It looked ordinary — wooden frame with cracked strings — but Abuela whispered it was magical.
"Only when the moon shines bright," she would say, winking.
One summer evening, as Lily sat in the garden eating a juicy orange, she noticed something strange. A tiny figure darted behind a flower! She leaned closer, and there it was again — a little mouse wearing a tiny waistcoat, peering at her from behind a sunflower.
"You spotted me!" squeaked the mouse. "I'm Pip, the garden spy. I've been watching you for weeks."
Lily giggled. "A spy? What are you spying on?"
"The magic," Pip whispered. "Tonight's the night. Look at your padel!"
Lily rushed inside and grabbed the old racket. Under the full moon, it began to glow! Golden sparks danced along the wooden frame, and when she swung it gently, butterflies of light swirled into the air.
"It's beautiful!" she breathed.
Pip scampered onto her shoulder. "The padel brings dreams to life. What does your heart wish?"
Lily thought of her orange grove. The drought had been hard on the trees. She closed her eyes and swung the glowing racket gently. Golden light flowed like water toward the orchard. The next morning, every tree was heavy with the sweetest oranges anyone had ever tasted.
"Magic works best when we help others," Pip said, before disappearing into the flowers with a tiny wave.
Lily never saw Pip again, but sometimes when the moon is bright, she still takes down the old padel racket. And if you look closely at her grandmother's garden, you might just see a little mouse in a waistcoat, still keeping watch over the magic.
