Lily loved exploring her grandmother's backyard, especially on sunny mornings. But today, she discovered something she'd never noticed before — a hidden path behind the old rosebushes.

Her golden dog, Buster, wagged his tail excitedly as they followed the winding trail deeper into the garden. Suddenly, they came upon a sparkling blue pool that seemed to glow with its own light.

"Wow," Lily whispered.

But what amazed her most was what sat beside the pool — a small sphinx made of golden stone, with the body of a lion and the head of a wise owl. Its eyes sparkled like tiny stars.

"Welcome, young friend," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone pure of heart."

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"

"I am the guardian of the Healing Pool," the sphinx explained. "For many years, I have watched over this magical water. Each drop is like a special vitamin for the soul — it brings courage, kindness, and joy to whoever drinks it."

Buster barked happily, as if he understood every word.

The sphinx smiled. "Your dog knows magic when he sees it. But tell me, Lily — why do you think I've let you find this place?"

Lily thought carefully. Then she remembered something. "Yesterday, I saw my neighbor Sarah crying. Her cat was sick, and she felt helpless. I wanted to help but didn't know how."

"Exactly," said the sphinx. "You were like a little spy, watching for ways to be kind. That's why I chose you."

The sphinx dipped a small silver bottle into the glowing pool. "Take this to Sarah. One drop in her cat's water bowl will bring healing. But remember — the real magic isn't in the water. It's in your heart that wanted to help."

Lily took the bottle carefully. "Thank you!"

"One more thing," the sphinx added as its image began to fade. "True magic isn't about finding secrets. It's about using what you find to help others."

That afternoon, Lily gave Sarah the magical water. Within hours, Sarah's cat was playing happily again. Sarah hugged Lily. "You're the best friend ever."
