The Secret of the Friendly Zombie
Lily loved spending her summer days at the old swimming hole behind her house. The water sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight, and the air smelled of sweet honeysuckle. But today, something strange caught her eye.
Behind the willow tree, she saw someone walking very slowly. Their arms were stretched out stiffly, and they moved with a funny wobble. Lily gasped — it looked like a zombie! But this zombie wasn't green or scary. He wore bright orange swim trunks and had kind, curious eyes.
"Hello?" Lily called out bravely.
The zombie boy froze. "I'm not really a zombie," he whispered. "I'm practicing for the school play. I'm supposed to be a friendly zombie who just wants to make friends."
Lily giggled. "Well, you're doing a great job! I'm Lily. What's your name?"
"Oliver," he said, dropping the zombie act and smiling. "I'm new in town. I saw the swimming hole and wanted to check it out, but I didn't want to intrude."
"You're not intruding!" Lily said. "Come swim with me!"
As they splashed and played, Oliver noticed something floating near the shore. "Is that... an orange?" he asked.
Lily swam over and picked it up. "It is! Someone must have left it here. Wait — there's something attached to it." She peeled back a small piece of paper taped to the fruit. It read: 'TO THE SPY WHO FINDS THIS: Meet at the big oak tree at sunset for a grand adventure.'
Oliver's eyes widened. "A spy mission?"
"A secret adventure!" Lily exclaimed. "Do you want to go?"
"Only if we go together," Oliver said. "That's what friends do."
Lily smiled. She had found something better than a swimming buddy — a true friend who loved adventures just as much as she did. And together, they would discover what mysteries awaited them at sunset.
Sometimes, the best adventures start with something silly — like a zombie in orange swim trunks and a mysterious orange floating in the water. And the best discoveries aren't treasures or secrets, but the friends we make along the way.
