The Secret of Starlight Pool
Lily, Max, and Emma loved playing spy in their backyard. With paper badges on their shirts and invisible spy glasses, they were the Secret Three Club, defenders of everything mysterious.
One summer evening, they spotted something strange at the old swimming pool behind the tall fence. The pool had been closed for years, but tonight, the water was glowing with soft blue light.
"Mission accepted!" whispered Lily, their club leader. They snuck through a hole in the fence, hearts pounding with excitement.
There, standing by the glowing pool, was a green figure. It moved slowly, with stiff arms and groaning sounds.
"It's a zombie!" gasped Max, hiding behind Emma.
The creature turned. Its face was covered in green goo, and one eye was half-closed. But then it spoke.
"I'm not a zombie," it said sadly. "I'm just covered in algae from cleaning this pool. I'm the new groundskeeper, Mr. Green."
The Secret Three Club looked closer. Sure enough, the green monster was actually a nice man with a bucket and scrub brush.
"Why is the pool glowing?" asked Emma, always the curious one.
Mr. Green smiled. "These are starfire crystals. They only glow when children who are true friends come near. They're magical."
He reached into the water and pulled out three small crystals that shone like tiny stars. "These are for you. Always remember: things aren't always what they seem. Sometimes the scary zombie is just a friendly man doing his job."
That night, the Secret Three Club learned their most important spy lesson: investigate before you judge, and magic can be found in the most unexpected places.
From then on, they visited Mr. Green every summer. They weren't just spies anymore—they were guardians of the magical Starlight Pool, and friends with the kindest 'zombie' in the world.
