The Secret of Starlight Pool

Lily was the best **spy** in all of Willow Creek. At least, that's what she told her cat, Mittens. Every day after school, she would sneak through the tall grass behind her house, wearing her father's old binoculars around her neck.

One afternoon, while spying on the ducks at the pond, Lily spotted something extraordinary. A enormous brown bear was sitting on the far bank, reading a book!

"Bears can't read," Lily whispered. But curiosity bubbled inside her like soda pop. She tiptoed closer.

The bear looked up. "Hello, little one. I'm Barnaby. Would you like to see something magical?"

Lily's eyes widened. Barnaby led her through a hidden path in the forest until they reached a sparkling pool she had never seen before. The water glowed with rainbow colors.

"This is Starlight Pool," Barnaby said. "But to reach the best part, we must go **swimming**."

Lily didn't have her swimsuit, but Barnaby explained that magic water didn't get your clothes wet. Together they dove into the warm, glowing water. Down they swam, deeper and deeper, until they reached an underwater cave.

There, resting on a crystal pedestal, was a small **sphinx** carved from pure moonstone. It had the body of a lion and the face of a wise child.

"The Starlight Sphinx," Barnaby whispered. "It grants one wish to those who are truly kind."

Lily thought hard. She could wish for endless candy, or to fly, or for a million toys. But then she thought about how lonely Barnaby seemed, reading by himself every day.

"I wish for a friend who loves adventure as much as I do," Lily said.

The sphinx's eyes opened, glowing golden. "Your heart is pure. Your wish is granted."

From that day on, Lily and Barnaby were the best adventure partners. They discovered new magical places, helped forest creatures, and taught everyone that the best wishes are the ones you share with friends.

And Lily? She was still the best spy in Willow Creek. Now she had someone to share all her secrets with.
