The Secret of Splash Pond

spyswimmingwaterzombie

Lily loved the water more than anything. Every summer day, she could be found swimming in Splash Pond, her favorite spot in the whole world. She wasn't just swimming—she was exploring.

One afternoon, while practicing her underwater spy moves, Lily noticed something strange. A shadow moved beneath the lily pads. Being a curious spy, she dove deeper to investigate.

The shadow belonged to a greenish creature with tangled seaweed hair and sleepy eyes. It moved slowly through the water, not like a fish, but like... a zombie!

Lily nearly gasped, swallowing water. She had heard stories about the Pond Zombie. Kids said it haunted Splash Pond, looking for lost toys. But this zombie didn't look scary. It looked sad.

The zombie spotted Lily and froze. Slowly, it held out a webbed hand. In its palm sat a shiny silver button—Lily's lost button from her favorite swimsuit!

"You found it!" Lily bubbled through the water.

The zombie smiled crookedly. "I'm Ziggy," it seemed to say without speaking, its voice echoing in Lily's mind. "I collect lost things. I've been waiting for someone to notice me."

Lily realized Ziggy wasn't a zombie at all. He was a Water Guardian! For years, Ziggy had been returning lost treasures to swimmers, but everyone was too frightened to see his kindness.

"Will you be my friend?" Lily asked.

Ziggy's eyes sparkled like sunlight on water. He did a little spin, sending bubbles dancing around them. They spent the afternoon playing—Lily teaching Ziggy to race, and Ziggy showing her secret underwater caves filled with glowing shells.

Lily learned something important that day: things aren't always what they seem. Sometimes the scariest monsters are just lonely friends waiting to be discovered.

Now, whenever Lily goes swimming, she brings extra buttons. Just in case Ziggy finds them. And sometimes, on sunny days, other kids swear they see something magical moving beneath the lily pads. Something wonderful. Something friendly.

Something that used to be called a zombie, but is really just a friend.
