The Secret of Sparkle Pool
Mia pressed her spy glass against her bedroom window. Below, the neighborhood pool glowed in the moonlight. She saw something strange—a green figure shuffling by the water's edge.
"A zombie!" Mia gasped, grabbing her detective flashlight. She tiptoed downstairs, her heart thumping.
Her friend Sam was already outside. "Did you see it? The zombie by the pool?"
Mia nodded bravely. "We have to investigate. It's our spy mission."
Together, they crept toward the pool. The creature stopped at the edge, head drooping. Its skin looked dull and grayish-green.
Sam hid behind a bush. "It's eating a... vitamin tablet?"
Mia stepped forward. The zombie jumped. "Please don't be scared," it said in a whispery voice.
"You can talk?" Mia asked.
"I'm Zomby," the creature said sadly. "I'm a water sprite. I lost my sparkle because I haven't visited magical rainbow pools in too long. My friend gave me this glow vitamin, but I can't swallow it without water magic."
The children exchanged glances. This wasn't a scary zombie—it was a lonely friend who needed help.
Sam thought for a moment. "Our pool has underwater lights. They turn different colors. Maybe if you swim while the lights cycle through rainbow colors, you'll get your magic back."
Zomby's eyes widened. "Really?"
Mia took his webbed hand. "Come on, friend. Let's try."
They turned on the pool lights—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Zomby swam through each color, swallowing his vitamin. Slowly, his dull green skin began to shimmer. First sparkles, then glows, until he shone like a swimming emerald.
"Thank you!" Zomby cheered, doing a happy flip. "You're not just spies—you're the best friends ever!"
Before leaving, he pressed something into Mia's palm. A magic swim ring. "Whenever you need adventure, just whisper my name."
Mia and Sam watched Zomby sparkle away into the night. They had solved their first mystery and made a magical friend. Sometimes, the scary things aren't scary at all—they just need a little help to shine.
