The Secret of Moonlight Lake
Lily loved her dog Mango more than anything in the world. He wasn't an ordinary dog — his fur was the color of sunshine, and he could always sense when adventure was waiting.
One evening, as the sky turned purple and pink, Mango pulled Lily toward the old forest path. His tail wagged with excitement. "What is it, boy?" Lily whispered, following him past the whispering trees and sparkling fireflies.
They arrived at Moonlight Lake, where the water glowed like liquid silver. But tonight, something strange was happening. Green and orange lights danced beneath the surface, rippling in mysterious patterns.
Mango barked softly, and Lily understood. They needed to be spies tonight! She tiptoed to the water's edge, hiding behind a weeping willow tree. That's when she saw them — zombie frogs!
But these weren't scary zombies like in stories. The little green frogs had been sleeping all winter underground. Now they were waking up, stretching their legs, and jumping into the moonlit water. Each frog carried something precious: an orange marigold petal, saved from autumn.
"They're having a celebration!" Lily gasped.
The zombie frogs placed their orange petals on the water, creating a floating garden of light. They sang in croaks that sounded like tiny bells, welcoming spring back to the lake.
One small frog noticed Lily watching. Instead of hopping away, it swam to shore and offered her an extra petal. Lily's eyes widened with wonder.
"Thank you," she said, accepting the gift.
Mango licked the frog's head, making it croak with what sounded like laughter. Lily realized something important: sometimes things that seem strange or different are actually beautiful — you just have to look with your heart.
As dawn approached, Lily and Mango promised to keep the frogs' secret. They would be the protectors of Moonlight Lake, the silent spies who guarded the magic between sleeping and waking, winter and spring, darkness and light.
And every spring, Lily returns to the lake, where her dog leads her to the dancing orange petals and the zombie frogs who taught her that wonder lives in the most unexpected places.
