The Secret Moon Pool
Lily's golden retriever, Barnaby, had a secret. Every night when the moon rose, he would tiptoe to the old oak tree behind their house and disappear.
One warm summer evening, Lily decided to follow him. She crept through the tall grass, her bare feet silent on the soft earth. Past the oak tree, down a hidden path covered in sparkling flowers, Barnaby led her to something magical.
There, nestled in a circle of ancient stones, was a pool unlike anything Lily had ever seen. The water shimmered with rainbow colors, and tiny lights floated above its surface like captured stars.
"This is the Moon Pool," Barnaby said, and Lily gasped—her dog could talk!
"The water here holds dreams," Barnaby explained. "Every full moon, animals come to share their wishes. Tonight, I brought you."
Around them, creatures emerged from the forest—a fox with emerald eyes, a rabbit with silver-tipped ears, even a wise old turtle. Each approached the pool, touched the water with their nose or paw, and whispered a dream.
Lily stepped forward. The water felt like warm honey as she dipped her hand in. "What should I wish?" she asked.
Barnaby nudged her gently. "The pool doesn't grant wishes for yourself. It only shows you how to help others."
Lily understood. She closed her eyes and thought of her lonely grandmother, who missed her garden since moving to a wheelchair.
The water swirled with images—a beautiful rooftop garden, with raised beds her grandmother could reach.
"Now you know what to do," Barnaby said.
Lily nodded. She would build that garden, make it happen with her own hands.
As dawn approached, the pool faded, but the magic remained. Walking home, Lily hugged Barnaby. "Thank you for showing me."
Barnaby licked her cheek. "That's what friends do. And next full moon? We'll visit the pool again. Together."
Lily smiled, already planning the garden—and the next adventure with her magical dog.
