The Secret in the Water Bowl
Leo was seven years old, and he had the most unusual best friend—a goldfish named Finny who lived in a glass bowl on his nightstand. Finny wasn't just any fish. Leo had discovered something magical about him.
Every evening when the moon rose, Finny would swim to the surface of his water and blow tiny bubbles that formed pictures. Finny was a spy! He could see things happening outside Leo's window and show them in the water—shimmering images of neighborhood cats, birds building nests, and children playing tag.
One night, Finny showed Leo something surprising. In the swirling water, Leo saw his big sister's favorite baseball rolling into the dark bushes across the street. Someone had lost it during the game earlier that day!
"Thank you, Finny!" Leo whispered, carefully moving the fish bowl. His curly hair bounced as he grabbed his flashlight and sneakers. He crept outside, following Finny's earlier signal.
There it was! The baseball was resting beside a small fountain. But Leo gasped. Behind the fountain, a tiny goldfish was flopping in a puddle—its bowl must have tipped over!
Leo knew what to do. He gently scooped up the wild goldfish in his hands and rushed home, placing it safely into Finny's bowl. Finny swam excitedly around his new friend.
The next day, Leo returned the baseball to his grateful sister. That night, Finny showed a new picture in the water—two fish swimming together, surrounded by hearts.
Leo learned that magic lives in unexpected places. Even a small goldfish can be a hero, and true friendship means helping others—whether they have two legs or two fins.
