The Secret Garden Underground

Lily loved exploring behind her grandmother's house, especially near the old shed where the garden tools slept. One rainy afternoon, she noticed something strange—a thick black cable snaking through the tall grass like a curious garden snake.

She followed the cable past the oak tree and around the rosebushes until it disappeared into a hole in the ground. Lily knelt and peered inside. To her amazement, she saw a soft orange glow flickering from below.

"Hello?" she called softly.

A voice echoed up. "Hello yourself! Would you like to come down?"

Lily squeezed through the hole and slid down a gentle slope into the most magical place she had ever seen. An underground garden bloomed beneath the earth, with crystal lanterns casting orange light everywhere. And there, watering a patch of glowing plants, was a little green boy with leaves for hair.

"I'm Zom," he said, smiling. "I'm a garden zombie. My job is to take care of plants that grow below the ground."

Lily's eyes widened. "A zombie? But you're so friendly!"

Zom laughed. "Not all zombies are scary. Some of us just love gardening."

He showed her his favorite plants—spinach that sparkled like tiny stars, carrots that hummed gentle tunes, and potatoes that glowed with a warm golden light.

"But I'm worried," Zom admitted. "The water stream that feeds our garden is getting weaker. Soon the plants will be thirsty."

Lily looked around and spotted the cable again. It ran from the surface all the way down to the garden, but it was tangled around some rocks.

"I think I can help!" said Lily.

Working together, Lily and Zom untangled the cable. When they pulled it free, cool clear water began flowing again, rushing through little channels to all the thirsty plants.

"Thank you!" Zom cheered, and the spinach sparkled even brighter, as if clapping along. "You saved our garden. Being a zombie can be lonely, but now I have a friend who comes from above."

Lily hugged her new friend. "And I have a friend who lives in a magical underground garden. That's even better."

Every day after school, Lily visited Zom and his glowing plants. She learned that the most wonderful discoveries often come from following curiosity, and that true friendship can grow anywhere—even underground between a girl and a garden zombie.
