The Secret Garden Spy
Lily was a spy. Not a real spy with gadgets and dark glasses, but a backyard spy with a magnifying glass and a very important mission. Her dog Buster was her assistant, though he mostly just slept and wagged his tail.
One afternoon, Lily's magnifying glass revealed something strange in the garden shed. A slow, shuffling creature with moss growing on its shoulders and flowers braided into its hair. It looked like a zombie, but not a scary one—a friendly zombie gardener!
"Hello," said Lily, brave spy that she was. "Are you... a zombie?"
"I'm Zora!" the creature smiled. Her smile was like sunshine after rain. "I used to be a lonely gardener, but then something magical happened. The fairies gave me a special vitamin that made me live forever in this garden. I take care of the plants and watch them grow."
Lily couldn't believe it. A fairy vitamin that made you immortal?
"But it's lonely sometimes," Zora admitted, pulling at a flower petal. "Most people run away when they see me."
"Not me," Lily said firmly. "I'm a spy, and spies aren't scared of anything interesting. Besides, Buster likes you!" Buster was already licking Zora's mossy hand.
"Would you like to see my secret project?" Zora asked.
Lily followed her behind the shed to a hidden garden where vegetables glowed with magical light. "These are special vegetables," Zora explained. "They contain the friendship vitamin. Anyone who eats them will always find a friend."
Lily's eyes widened. "Can I plant them too?"
"Only if you promise something," Zora said seriously. "You must never judge someone by how they look. Sometimes the scariest-looking creatures have the kindest hearts. That's the most important lesson a spy can learn."
"I promise," Lily whispered.
Every day after school, Lily and Buster returned to help Zora in the magical garden. And whenever Lily saw someone sitting alone at school, she would share the friendship vegetables with them.
She wasn't just a garden spy anymore. She was a friend finder, which was much more important. And Zora wasn't a zombie to be afraid of—she was the best friend Lily ever made in her secret garden.
