The Secret Garden Spy

spinachhairzombiepalmspy

Lila was the best spy in the whole neighborhood. With her messy brown **hair** always tucked under a detective hat she'd made from construction paper, she crept through backyards like a soft-footed cat. Her mission today: investigate the mysterious garden behind the old stone wall.

Every morning at breakfast, Lila's mom told her to eat her **spinach**. "It makes you strong!" Mom would say. But Lila knew the real secret – spinach made her EXTRA observant. She noticed things other kids missed: the way ants marched in tiny lines, how flowers turned their faces toward the sun, and especially the strange sounds coming from behind the wall.

*Crunch. Shuffle. CRUNCH.*

Lila peeked through a crack in the stones. What she saw made her eyes go wide like full moons. A small green figure was walking through the garden bed. It looked like a **zombie** – all wobbly and slow – but it wasn't scary at all. It was made of leaves and vines, with little flower buds for fingers!

The zombie plant shuffled toward a tall **palm** tree at the garden's center. And there, under the swaying palm leaves, Lila saw something magical. Tiny garden creatures – fairies with wings like dragonfly wings – were having a party! They were playing music on flower trumpets and drinking nectar from acorn cups.

"Come dance!" a fairy called to the zombie plant. "You're not scary – you're just tired from walking so far!"

Lila's heart swelled with happiness. She had been spying because she thought something was wrong. But nothing was wrong at all. The zombie plant wasn't a monster. It was a friend who had traveled all the way from the enchanted forest just to dance with the garden fairies.

That night, Lila learned the most important lesson a spy could ever learn: sometimes things that seem strange or scary at first are actually wonderful – if you're brave enough to look closer. And from that day on, she always ate her spinach, because you never know when you'll need extra sharp eyes to discover magic.
