The Secret Garden Pool
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden. It was full of secrets: twinkling fireflies, singing roses, and butterflies that painted rainbows across the sky. But the biggest secret was the old stone pool behind the weeping willow tree.
One moonlit night, Lily peeked into the water. Instead of her reflection, she saw something extraordinary—a gentle zombie named Zara!
But Zara wasn't scary at all. She had flowers braided into her green hair and wore a dress made of morning dew and spiderwebs.
"Hello, friend!" Zara waved sadly. "I've been trapped in this reflection for a hundred years. A lonely sphinx put me here because I couldn't solve his riddle."
Lily's heart swelled with kindness. "I'll help you!"
The next morning, Lily marched to the ancient sphinx statue. "Mr. Sphinx!" she called. "I challenge you to a riddle contest!"
The stone lion with human features groaned to life. His golden eyes gleamed. "Very well, small one. If you win, I'll free your friend. If you lose, you join her in the pool forever!"
Just then, a magnificent bull with golden horns trotted out from behind the garden wall. He was no ordinary bull—his hooves made musical notes when he walked, and his coat shimmered like the northern lights.
"I'll help you!" the bull said wisely. "Together, we can solve any riddle."
The sphinx riddled them with tricky questions: "What has keys but can't open locks?" (A piano!) "What gets wet while drying?" (A towel!) But the hardest one came last: "What is too heavy for one, light enough for two, and impossible for three to carry alone?"
Lily thought hard. She looked at Zara's sad face in the pool, at the brave bull beside her, and at the lonely sphinx who only wanted company.
"A secret!" Lily cried. "Secrets are heavy when kept alone, easier when shared with a friend, but too big for three people to carry by themselves because they should share it together!"
The sphinx smiled for the first time in centuries. "You are wise beyond your years, little one. You taught me that friendship makes heavy things lighter."
With a wave of his paw, Zara burst from the pool in a sparkle of magic. She hugged Lily and thanked the bull.
"From now on," Zara declared, "this pool will be a Place of Friendship, where anyone can find a friend."
And that's why, to this day, children who are lonely sometimes see their reflection smiling back at them, with a new friend ready to appear. The secret garden pool becomes magical whenever someone needs a friend—because the best magic of all is friendship.
