The Secret Game by the River
Emma loved to explore. One sunny afternoon, she found an old brass spyglass hidden in her grandmother's attic. It was covered in swirling patterns that seemed to shimmer like moonlight on water.
"This must be magic," she whispered.
Emma ran to the sparkling river that flowed behind her house. She peered through the spyglass, and the world transformed! The ordinary water began to glow with rainbow colors. Fish flew like birds above the surface, and the trees waved hello.
Then she saw something wonderful. On a grassy island stood a giant brown bull and a big black bear. But they weren't fighting. They were playing baseball!
The bull pitched a ball made of clouds. The bear swung with a branch as his bat. *POOF!* The cloud-ball burst into tiny butterflies every time it was hit.
Emma watched, amazed. A bull and a bear, supposed enemies, playing together as friends.
Suddenly, the cloud-ball sailed toward her. Without thinking, Emma reached out and caught it. It felt like holding a piece of sunshine.
"You found our lost ball!" called the bear, swimming across the river effortlessly. The bull trotted over the water as if it were solid ground.
"I'm Emma," she said, "and I was spying on you through my magic spyglass."
The bear laughed kindly. "We're Benny and Bruno. Would you like to play?"
Emma spent the afternoon playing magical baseball with her new friends. Benny the bear taught her how to hit cloud-balls into stars. Bruno the bull showed her how to catch raindrops in her glove.
As the sun began to set, Emma learned something important: sometimes the best friends come from the most unexpected places. And with a little magic and an open heart, anyone can play together.
"Come back tomorrow," Bruno called as Emma waved goodbye, her spyglass glowing in her pocket.
Emma ran home, her heart full of wonder. She couldn't wait for another adventure with her unlikely friends by the water.
