The Secret Club Under the Orange Tree

Leo and Mia found the perfect hiding spot behind the old orange tree in Mia's backyard. Its branches drooped low, creating a secret clubhouse just for them.

"Today's mission," Leo whispered, adjusting his imaginary spy glasses, "is to recover the Stolen Treasure."

Mia giggled. She loved how Leo turned everything into an adventure. Today, the Stolen Treasure was her favorite baseball, which had rolled mysteriously toward the creepy house next door.

"Are you sure about this?" Mia asked, clutching her orange from the tree. "Nobody's seen old Mr. Henderson in weeks."

"That's why we need to investigate!" Leo said bravely. "Spy Rule Number One: Always be curious."

They crept across the grass, staying low like detectives. Behind Mr. Henderson's house, they found something strange—a thick black cable snaking from his window into the ground. It pulsed with a soft, magical glow.

Suddenly, the door creaked open. Mr. Henderson stepped out, but he didn't look scary at all. He wore a bright orange shirt and held a steaming mug.

"Looking for this?" He smiled, holding up the baseball. "I saw it roll through my fence yesterday. I was going to bring it over, but I've been busy with my new project."

He pointed to the glowing cable. "It's a special cable I invented. It lets me send pictures and stories to my grandson who lives far away. See?"

On Mr. Henderson's tablet, a little boy waved excitedly. "Grandpa! Are those the friends you told me about?"

Mr. Henderson laughed. "I might have told him about the zombie game I saw you kids playing last week. You had such wonderful imaginations!"

Leo's eyes widened. "You watched us?"

"Every afternoon," Mr. Henderson said kindly. "Reminds me of when I was young. My friends and I played spy games, baseball, and make-believe adventures too."

Mia gasped. "You weren't scary or lonely at all!"

"Nobody is truly scary once you know their story," Mr. Henderson said. "Now, would you two like to meet my grandson? He's been wanting to challenge someone to a zombie video game tournament."

Leo and Mia looked at each other and grinned. Their spy mission had led them to something even better than a treasure—a new friend.

"Spy Rule Number Two," Leo whispered to Mia as they followed Mr. Henderson inside. "Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones you never expected."

And under the orange tree that evening, three friends laughed together, connected by something stronger than any magical cable—the simple joy of friendship.
