The Secret Cable Car Adventure

zombiecablespydog

Leo pressed his eye to the telescope, his heart beating fast. Behind him, Barnaby the dog wagged his tail so hard his whole body wiggled.

"Are you ready for our mission?" Leo whispered, adjusting his homemade spy mask made from construction paper.

Barnaby barked once—a yes!

Today they were taking the shiny cable car all the way up Misty Mountain. Leo's mom had given them two tickets for his birthday. "The best spies always start with a good adventure," she'd said with a wink.

The cable car clicked and hummed as it lifted them higher, higher, higher! Leo pressed his nose against the glass. Below, their town looked like a toy village. Tiny cars crawled like colorful beetles. Trees were like broccoli florets.

"Look, Barnaby!" Leo pointed. "We're floating!"

Barnaby stood on his back legs, paws on the window, and let out a happy howl that made the other passengers giggle.

When the cable car reached the top station, something strange caught Leo's eye. Behind a bush, something green and shuffling was moving very slowly.

"A zombie!" Leo gasped. The kind from his favorite video game—slow and wobbly and funny.

But wait... zombies weren't real. This was Misty Mountain, not a video game!

Leo the Spy crept closer. Barnaby tiptoed beside him, his nose twitching.

"Hello?" Leo called out bravely.

The green thing turned around. It wasn't a zombie at all—it was Mr. Higgins from the general store! He was wearing his grandson's zombie costume from Halloween, practicing for the town parade.

"Oh hello there!" Mr. Higgins laughed, his zombie makeup smearing a little. "I thought I was alone up here!"

Leo and Barnaby giggled so hard they fell to the grass.

"We're on a secret spy mission," Leo explained. "To find the best adventure ever."

"Well then," Mr. Higgins said, pulling some candy from his pocket, "every good spy needs provisions."

They sat together eating chocolate while watching the cable cars float back and forth across the sky like magic seeds.

Leo learned something wonderful that day: sometimes the things that seem scary or strange are just people having fun, too. And the best adventures—even the ones where you're pretending to be a spy or you think you see a zombie—are always better when you have a dog by your side and friends to share the surprise.

On the cable car ride down, Barnaby slept in Leo's lap. Leo patted his soft fur and smiled. Being a spy was exciting. But being a friend was even better.
