"I'll get it!" Lily called, but her grandfather shook his head. "Some treasures are worth the chase, little one."

That night, Lily heard strange sounds.Thunk-thunk-thunk. Like someone hitting a small ball against a wall. She peeked through her window and saw tiny creatures – no bigger than her hand – playing **padel** in the moonlight! They used maple leaves as rackets and acorns as balls, laughing and rallying under the stars.

The smallest creature stopped and looked right at her window.

"Oh no!" Lily gasped. "I've been caught **spy**ing on the midnight games!" She ducked down, embarrassed. But a tiny voice called up, "Come join us! We need one more for teams!"

Lily couldn't believe it. She crept outside and played padel until dawn, her new friends teaching her secret moves – how to make the ball curve like a shooting star, how to hit it so softly it floated like a dandelion seed.

"We're the Guardians of Play," the little creature explained. "Every night, we celebrate all the ways children have fun during the day. Your swimming helps us make waves. Your baseball gives us our games. And now you know our secret."
