The Secret Behind the Cable

spycablebullfriend

Mia was a special kind of **spy**. Not the sneaky kind from movies, but a wonder spy—someone who kept her eyes open for magic in ordinary places.

One rainy afternoon, she was hiding behind the big armchair, watching dust motes dance in the light, when she noticed something strange. The thick black **cable** that connected her family's television seemed to hum. Not with electricity, but with something else—something that made the tiny hairs on her arms stand up.

Mia scooted closer. The cable was glowing softly, like a firefly caught inside a jar. Being the brave wonder spy that she was, she reached out and touched it.

ZING!

The cable uncoiled like a snake and slithered toward the wall, where it disappeared through a tiny crack Mia had never noticed before. Following her curiosity (and the glowing cable), she squeezed through the crack and tumbled into a world painted in colors she had no names for.

There, munching on flowers that sang soft melodies as they were eaten, was the most magnificent creature Mia had ever seen. A great golden **bull** with galaxies swirling in his fur and moons for horns. But he wasn't scary. His eyes were warm and kind, like a grandfather's smile.

"You must be the new wonder spy," the bull rumbled gently. "I've been waiting **fifty-three years** for someone curious enough to follow the magic cable."

"Fifty-three years?" Mia gasped. "But you look so young!"

"Time works differently here," the bull explained. "This is the In-Between, where all the magical things hide when the real world gets too loud. I am Barnaby, guardian of the In-Between. And I have been very lonely without a **friend** to show everything to."

For hours, Barnaby showed Mia wonders: waterfalls that flowed upward, trees that grew books instead of leaves, and clouds you could ride like roller coasters. Mia realized being a spy wasn't just about watching—it was about finding things worth protecting.

"Will you come back?" Barnaby asked when it was time for her to leave.

"Every Tuesday," Mia promised. "And I'll bring my little brother. He's even better at finding magic than I am."

Barnaby's galaxy-swirls brightened. "A wonder spy and her brother? I think the In-Between is going to be just fine."

Mia returned through the cable, her heart full of stardust and secrets. Some spies kept secrets to themselves, but Mia knew the best kind of secrets were the ones you shared—especially with friends who needed them most.
