The Secret Agent Goldfish

Lily's goldfish, Glub, was not an ordinary fish. While other goldfish swam in circles, Glub would tap his nose against the glass three times when danger approached. One hot summer afternoon, Lily was sitting by the pool, watching her goldfish in his bowl on the patio table. Suddenly, Glub began swimming frantically and tapped his nose—tap, tap, tap!

Lily grabbed her iphone, which had a special spy detector app she'd invented (well, pretended to invent). The screen showed a flashing red dot! Someone was approaching the secret clubhouse behind the pool!

"Quick, Glub!" Lily whispered. "Operation Goldfish Spy is a go!"

She carefully moved Glub's bowl to a hidden spot in the garden, then grabbed her baseball glove from the porch. If anyone asked, she was just practicing baseball catches. But really, she was protecting her fish friend, who was actually a secret agent fish from an underwater kingdom.

Her new neighbor, Max, wandered over the fence. "Hey Lily, want to play baseball?"

Lily's heart raced. Was Max a spy sent to discover Glub's secret identity? She decided to test him. "Sure, but first you have to pass the Secret Friend Test. Do you promise to never tell anyone about my goldfish's special mission?"

Max's eyes went wide. "Your goldfish has a MISSION?"

Lily nodded solemnly. "He's a spy fish from the deep ocean kingdom of Atlantis. He's here to protect the world's pools from evil pool monsters."

Max gasped. "That's the coolest thing ever! I promise never to tell. Can I be your assistant spy?"

From that day on, Lily and Max became the best of friends. They had many adventures protecting the neighborhood pools (which mostly involved cleaning leaves out of the water), and Glub became their team mascot. Lily learned that sharing secrets with the right people can turn strangers into the best friends imaginable.

And sometimes, the best adventures start with a goldfish, a game of pretend, and an open heart.
