The Secret Agent Goldfish
Leo hated spinach. Every dinner, his mom said, "Eat your greens, they'll make you strong!" But Leo just pushed the green leaves around his plate.
His only friend was Finbar, a tiny orange goldfish in a bowl on his nightstand. While Leo played catch alone in the backyard, Finbar would swim in excited circles, splashing tiny ripples against the glass.
"I wish I could make the baseball team," Leo sighed one afternoon, his favorite glove collecting dust. He wasn't fast enough. He wasn't strong enough.
That night, Leo woke to a soft glow coming from Finbar's bowl. The goldfish was floating above the water, wearing what looked like a miniature spy suit made of silver bubbles.
"Leo," Finbar spoke in a voice like tiny bells, "I'm not really a goldfish. I'm Agent Fin, secret spy from the Crystal Kingdom. I've been watching you."
Leo's mouth fell open. "A spy goldfish?"
"I was sent to find the bravest human child." Fin swam through the air, leaving sparkles. "Tomorrow, when you're running at baseball tryouts, remember this — spinach doesn't just make muscles strong. It makes hearts brave."
The next morning, Leo ate every leaf of spinach on his plate. At tryouts, when it was time for running drills, his legs felt light as air. He flew around the bases faster than anyone.
"You made the team!" the coach cheered.
That night, Leo found a note in tiny bubble letters on his nightstand: "The bravery was always yours. I just helped you see it. Your friend, Agent Fin."
And sometimes, when Leo played his best games, he'd catch a flash of orange in the crowd — a very secret spy cheering him on.
