The Secret Agent Cat

Emma sat by the garden pond, trailing her fingers in the cool water. She was bored until something strange happened. A tiny bubble popped at the surface, and a whispery voice said, "Help us!"

Emma looked around. No one was there. Then she heard a soft meow. It was Mittens, her fluffy orange cat, sitting on a mossy rock. But Mittens wasn't looking at Emma. She was staring at the water, her green eyes wide and serious.

"Did you hear that?" Emma asked.

Mittens nodded. Actually nodded!

"I'm a secret spy for the Water Kingdom," Mittens said in a voice that sounded like silver bells. "The pond princess needs our help. Her magic pearl is trapped!"

Emma couldn't believe it. Her cat was a spy!

"But how can we help?"

Mittens tapped Emma's iPhone with her paw. "Use your magic glowing box. The water spirits can show you through its screen."

Emma pointed her iPhone at the pond. On the screen, she saw an underwater world. Tiny merpeople were swimming around, looking sad. In a corner, behind some seaweed, a beautiful pearl glowed.

"Someone dropped trash in the pond," Mittens explained sadly. "Now the pearl is stuck."

"I can help!" Emma said. She found a long stick and carefully fished out the plastic wrapper. The water rippled and sparkled.

"Thank you!" said the merpeople, their voices bubbling up like a happy song.

Mittens purred and rubbed against Emma's leg. "You're not just my owner," she said. "You're my best friend."

Emma hugged her secret agent cat. She knew this was the first of many adventures they would share together. And every time she looked at water, she wondered what magical friends were swimming just beneath the surface, waiting to say hello.
