The River's Secret Friend

Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house. Every morning, she would race the butterflies and dodge the dandelions, her curly hair bouncing like golden springs in the wind.

One particularly hot day, Lily noticed something strange. The little creek that usually babbled happily had stopped flowing. The water was gone, leaving only a muddy bed behind.

Lily followed the dry creek bed upstream, her heart pounding. What had happened to the water?

She found the answer soon enough. An enormous rock had rolled down from the mountain during the night, blocking the creek's path. But that wasn't the strangest part. Trapped behind the rock was a tiny creature—no bigger than her hand—with skin that sparkled like diamonds and hair made of flowing blue water.

"Help me," the creature squeaked in a voice like trickling streams. "I'm a water sprite, and my friend the creek cannot flow. Please move this rock so we can continue our journey to the river."

Lily wanted to help, but the rock was too heavy. She thought hard. What could she do?

She remembered something her grandmother had told her: water always finds a way.

Lily began digging a small channel around the rock with her hands, working faster and faster. The water sprite cheered her on, spraying happy droplets that made Lily laugh. When the channel was deep enough, the sprite called to the trapped water.

"Come, friend! Follow this new path!"

The water rushed through the channel Lily had dug, swirling around the sprite like a joyful dance. As the water flowed freely again, the creek began to sing its happy song once more.

"Thank you," the sprite said, climbing onto a floating leaf. "You showed me that even when obstacles block our way, we can always find another path together."

Lily waved as the sprite floated away downstream. From that day on, whenever she heard the creek's joyful song, she remembered her water friend and the lesson they had learned: true friendship means helping each other find new paths, even when the old ones are blocked.

And every time it rained, Lily would run to the meadow, wondering if her tiny friend was dancing in the puddles, still finding new paths to follow.
