The Riddle of Three Friends
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's attic, where dusty books held secrets and old toys whispered stories of forgotten playtimes. One rainy afternoon, she discovered something magical—a glowing golden book with no title. When she opened it, three small figurines tumbled out: a crystal bear, a tiny sphinx, and a brass dog.
Suddenly, the attic faded away, and Lily found herself standing in a mystical forest where trees grew in impossible colors—purple leaves, silver bark, flowers that sang soft melodies.
"Welcome, child," spoke a deep, gentle voice. The crystal bear from the book now stood before her, towering and magnificent with fur that sparkled like diamonds. "I am Bruno, Guardian of Courage."
From atop a mossy stone stepped the sphinx, no bigger than a cat but with eyes full of ancient wisdom. "I am Cleo, Keeper of Riddles. Only those with pure hearts may enter our realm."
And bounding joyfully through the enchanted grass came a small but brave dog with a copper coat and heart of gold. "I'm Pip!" he barked happily. "I've been waiting forever for a friend to play with!"
Cleo the sphinx stretched her wings and smiled mysteriously. "Lily, you have found us because your heart is kind and your imagination is strong. But to return home, you must solve my riddle: What has feet but cannot walk, a mouth but cannot speak, and runs but has no legs?"
Lily thought hard, while Bruno nudged her hand encouragingly and Pip danced around her paws. Suddenly, she smiled. "A river!"
"Correct!" Cleo purred. As she spoke, the forest transformed into a beautiful meadow filled with butterflies that sparkled like tiny rainbows. The three friends played until sunset—Bruno giving gentle rides on his strong back, Cleo sharing stories of ancient times, and Pip teaching Lily games only dogs could invent.
"It's time," Bruno said softly as the sky turned purple and orange. "But remember, Lily—true friendship lives in your heart, not just in magical books. Whenever you feel lonely, just close your eyes and imagine us. We'll always be your friends."
Lily hugged each of them tight, then woke up on the attic floor, the golden book glowing softly in her hands. The figurines were back inside their pages, but something had changed—now they wore tiny smiles, as if they too remembered their wonderful adventure.
From that day on, Lily was never lonely. She had learned the most important lesson of all: friendship, once formed, can never truly be lost. And sometimes, the most unexpected friends—a brave bear, a wise sphinx, and a loyal dog—make the best companions of all.
